Contact Grills

A contact grill cooks from both sides at once, which halves the time a panini, toastie or steak sandwich takes compared with a flat griddle.

Plate surface decides what it suits. Ribbed plates mark the product and let fat drain, which is what a burger or a steak sandwich wants. Smooth plates give full contact for toasted sandwiches and flatbreads. Many machines run one of each.

Single units suit a café; double units let two orders run at once through a lunch rush, which is usually where the payback is.

Non-stick plate coatings do not survive metal scrapers. Clean them the way the manufacturer specifies or you will be buying plates.
