Island freezers sit in the middle of a supermarket aisle rather than against a wall, so customers shop them from all four sides. That is the whole point: an island gets roughly double the shopper contact of a wall cabinet in the same floor area.

Dual temperature models run one half frozen and one half chilled, which lets a single unit carry a frozen range and a chilled range without splitting the aisle.
