A storage fridge is the back-of-house workhorse: solid doors, gastronorm-compatible shelving and enough capacity to hold a day's prep at a stable temperature.

Solid doors are the point. They insulate better than glass, hold temperature through a busy service and cost less to run — which is why display fridges belong front of house and storage fridges belong in the kitchen.

Size by gastronorm capacity rather than litres, since that is how your trays and containers actually stack. One, two and three-door uprights are stocked, along with roll-in cabinets that take a whole loaded trolley. Williams and Skope supply most of the range.

For volume kitchens the Williams Ruby roll-in 2 door fridge takes a trolley straight in, and the Garnet roll-in single door does the same in a narrower footprint.

Check door swing clearance and ventilation gaps against your kitchen plan before ordering — these cabinets are tall and heavy, and a 50mm shortfall is found on delivery day.
